What is taught in Sunday School?

Young Children

The youngest students learn and act out Bible stories. They play learning, listening, and helping-each-other games. Everything relates back to using what the Bible teaches in our daily lives.

We think your pre-schooler will enjoy learning the story of David while coloring the pictures in this coloring book:,

Preteens and Teenagers

Students study the teachings of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. They also read and study the Weekly Bible Lessons. Together with their teachers, they discover how these teachings can guide their everyday decisions and actions.

Sunday School teachers encourage students to explore ideas and discuss what’s on their mind and engage with the other students.

Together students and teachers consider tough questions. In turn, they explore answers and share experiences together.

Teachers always welcome questions from students. For example a student might ask, “How can you be kind and caring to someone who hates or hurts you?

A Sunday School teacher might share the fact that Jesus taught his followers to turn to God for healing for every problem. She then might reference the denominational textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy to show how the book helps explain just how Jesus turned to God for solutions.

Most importantly, Sunday School teachers focus on meeting the spiritual needs of each student as they discuss each situation in the class.

What are the foundational and bibical statements of truth taught in Sunday School?

The Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy says the following:

”The time for thinkers has come. Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity.”

The following are foundational statements and Scriptures taught and practiced in Christian Science:

  • There is only one supreme, infinite, good God.

  • Genesis 1: God is good and made us in His image and likeness.

  • The Ten Commandments.

  • The Lord’s Prayer.

  • The Golden Rule and the Beatitudes (Sermon on the Mount).

  • That God is Love and ever-present.
